Netpower has delivered:

A digital application portal for producers

Nyt Norge, established by the Norwegian Food Foundation (Stiftelsen Norsk Mat), is the official country-of-origin label for Norwegian food and drink, flowers and plants. The scheme is there to make it easy for people to choose Norwegian products. Netpower took over responsibility for running, maintaining and developing the Nyt Norge application portal.

This project is part of a larger delivery for Stiftelsen Norsk Mat, which also includes the audit database (KSL), Lokalmat and the Spesialitet portal.

Nyt Norge application portal

The Nyt Norge application portal.

The application portal is the digital platform producers such as Nortura and Tine use to apply to label their products with Nyt Norge. Producers register the share of Norwegian raw materials and upload their labels through the portal.

The criteria for approval are clear:

  • At least 75% of the raw materials must be Norwegian
  • The products must be produced and packed in Norway
  • The raw materials must come from farms that follow the KSL internal control system (the Norwegian quality system for agriculture)

Once an application is approved, the producer may use the label on its packaging.

A better user experience with ID-porten

When Netpower took over, one of the challenges was that users met different log-in solutions across the Norsk Mat systems. Netpower has therefore introduced ID-porten as a shared single sign-on solution, giving a simpler, safer and more user-friendly experience across every system.

– The user flow improved considerably once we had ID-porten in place. Everyone can now log in through one solution instead of several, explains project manager Gøril Silden Brekkhus.

More product categories

Producers used to be able to apply only for agricultural foodstuffs (meat and dairy products among others), ornamental plants (flowers and plants) and catering. The portal now also covers seafood products. That flexibility means more and more of Norwegian food production can use the Nyt Norge label.

Better data quality through integrations

Another challenge has been keeping track of products that are no longer on the market. To keep the underlying data correct, Netpower has implemented an integration with Tradesolution, a national database of grocery products. The system now picks up discontinued products automatically, and this is the first step in a wider collaboration with Tradesolution.

Delivering on Norwegian products – and on digital solutions

Nyt Norge is more than a label on the packaging – it is a mark of quality that creates confidence right through the value chain. Consumers can be sure the products they buy are made from Norwegian raw materials, while producers get digital tools that make it easy to document exactly that. To protect that trust, Netpower has delivered solutions that streamline the application process and that are continuously improved on the basis of user testing and feedback.

Greta Hardal, Head of Certification at Nyt Norge, is particularly pleased with how usable the solution has become:

– We have worked closely with Netpower and with the users of the application portal to develop it so that the Nyt Norge labelling scheme has an efficient, user-friendly application process.

Development continues

From the start, Netpower and Nyt Norge have kept a close dialogue with regular status meetings, workshops and continuous communication – and the collaboration does not stop here. This is the plan from now on:

  • Expansion into more product categories
  • Closer integration with national databases, including Tradesolution
  • Improvements based on user feedback

A great deal is happening in the other projects too – the audit database (KSL), Lokalmat and the Spesialitet portal.

– It is a long-term partnership. We have worked closely with Nyt Norge and Stiftelsen Norsk Mat to make sure the solutions meet today’s needs and are ready for the future, Brekkhus concludes.
